The emergence and explosive growth of multi-function consumer devices such as tablets and smartphones has already impacted the “uni-tasker”, single-function electronics devices such as MP3 players and GPS systems. Digital still cameras have suffered greatly as well, with the cameras built into most of today’s cellular handsets serving as an effective replacement for many consumers, leading to a market that is stagnant at best. In fact, the Point-and-Shoot segment of the market, 105.8 million units in 2011, has peaked and is expected to fall to just 77 million cameras by 2016.
