Component Price Tracking Service of IHS iSuppli to Add 16 New Optocouplers to Its Roster
New parts to be added reflect well-timed CPT response to customer requests
November 3, 2011
Starting November 7, a new listing covering 16 optocouplers will be added to the Component Price Tracker (CPT) service from IHS iSuppli at information and analysis provider IHS, in line with the research area’s mandate to provide comprehensive descriptions and price points affecting major semiconductor devices around the world.

The 16 new optocouplers reflect the timely response of CPT to increasingly common customer requests for information on the semiconductor device, which can emit as well as sense both visible and infrared light. Among the new optocouplers scheduled for inclusion in CPT are transistor outputs, logic outputs and triac outputs.

Classified under the broad optoelectronics rubric, optocouplers work by transferring electrical signals through light waves between input and output to provide coupling with electrical isolation. In the process, optocouplers help prevent high voltages on one side of the circuit from damaging components or distorting transmissions on the other side. The device can be found today in a wide range of popular consumer items, including smartphones, digital cameras, MP3 players, liquid crystal display televisions (LCD TV) and lighting systems based on light-emitting diodes (LED).

And unlike the reduced opportunities facing myriad original equipment manufacturers and other device makers in light of faltering global demand, the worldwide optoelectronics industry faces bullish prospects ahead. Global revenue for optoelectronics amounted to several billion dollars last year, with the space expected to enjoy expanding applications in the automotive, medical and illumination signals field for the years ahead.

With the addition of optocouplers to CPT, customers will be able to obtain valuable information on market pricing and forecast visibility for the component, with maximum fl exibility for quickly reviewing pricing trends in various formats at the part description or commodity group level.

CPT is a monthly service that provides current market prices and price forecasts for the most popular, high-volume, multisourced, commodity-type components to be found in the three major geographic regions of North America, Europe and Asia. CPT also examines the most representative part descriptions per component group, offering consistent and accurate pricing information by analyzing thousands of global pricing data points for key components. Delivered online via a secure Library account, CPT allows for the instant display of multiple or single regions as well as pricing types. Information also is available on tabular pricing data, part descriptions, relevant manufacturer part numbers and contract volumes.

Commodities covered by the service include optoelectronic, discrete, logic, passive, interconnect, memory and analog electronic components.
