Japan Quake Shouldn't Effect DRAM Production
March 11, 2011
The horrific earth quake that rocked northern Japan earlier today should not have significant impact on DRAM production in the country. Initial feedback from DRAM manufacturers in Japan (Elpida and Micron) indicate that the quake hasn't interrupted production. Japan accounts for about 10% of the worlds DRAM capacity (on a wafer basis). Micron's MJP facility is located to the west of Osaka (about 550 miles SW of the epicenter) while Elpida's facility is located in Hiroshima (about 675 miles SW of the epicenter).
