The fact that traditional navigation providers like TomTom, Garmin and the likes, have looked to smartphones to expand the reach and usability of their core service is nothing new. Similarly, opening their smartphone applications to allow users to share some navigation content with others via social networks has also been part of the roadmap for navigation providers for some time.
