For Android handsets running Android 2.1 and above, TWC's native application has been optimized for the resolutions and screen sizes that typically are associated with devices up to 4.5 inches in size. A variant of the application, with a UI specifically optimized for tablet-sized screens and resolutions, has also been released for devices running Android 3.x. <p>Pay TV technology vendor NDS has filed for an IPO with the US stock market regulator, the SEC. NDS were taken private in 2009 when Permira completed the purchase of 51 percent of the company, reducing the News Corp stake to 49 per cent. At the time, Permira's payment of almost $1.8bn valued the company at $3.6bn. The amount this offering aims to raise is $100m; with 12.5 per cent revenue growth between end of 2008 and end of 2011 it seems reasonable to assume that this represents around 2.5 per cent of the share capital.</p>  more ... At last data point (H1 2011), Philippines had 109 d-screens already installed, of which 104 were 3D-equipped, underlining the lack of progress on wider digitisation. DCA is targeting a minimum of 400 screens in 60 sites across the country, and there are 720 screens in the Philippines. <p>Christie Digital has signed first exhibitor to its recently announced VPF scheme in North America with Landmark Cinemas of Canada. The deal comprises a rapid conversion of over 100 screens to digital over the next six month period. Equipment used will be Christie projectors including models CP2200 and CP2300 projectors, which will be installed by King Cinema services. Landmark Cinemas had previously ordered Christie projectors for installation in six multiplexes back in May 2010 and for the opening of several new venues in 2011. Landmark now has a total of 33 sites with 111 screens across Canada.</p>  more ... <p>Having tested a BD window on several of its Diamond- and Platinum-branded classic re-releases in a number of key territories, Disney released <em>Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides </em>on BD a full 30 days ahead of its DVD debut in the US - the first significant BD retail window for a new-release feature film. The title was the top video seller during its first week on the strength of BD sales alone, which was also a first. However, <em>Pirates 4</em>, with a US box office of $241m, wasn't facing too much competition for the top slot. The other new-release theatrical titles for the week of October 18 were <em>Bad Teacher</em>, with just $100m in box office behind it, <em>Monte Carlo</em>, with $23m, and the first full week of sales for <em>Green Lantern</em>, which released on Friday, October 14 and had box office of $117m in the US.</p>  more ...
